Churchill Living

Ringwood

Ringwood based Churchill Living is bringing forward proposals for a new retirement living development on brownfield land at The Close, Ringwood.

Welcome

Ringwood based Churchill Living is bringing forward proposals for a new retirement living development on brownfield land at The Close, Ringwood.

Churchill living is one of the largest employers in Ringwood and is a leading UK retirement living operator that builds and manages communities designed exclusively for the over 60s.

Land off the Close, Ringwood represents an exciting opportunity to redevelop a vacant brownfield site in the heart of Ringwood to meet local housing needs and enhance the local environment, including improvements to the street scene and the site’s boundary with the War Memorial Gardens.

The site is a largely vacant brownfield site comprising three buildings, including empty  residential dwellings at Torridge and Close Court, and the Ringwood Auctions which has relocated to the Crow Industrial Estate.

Churchill’s vision is for a high-quality, independent retirement living development comprising 31 apartments together with an owners’ lounge, guest suite, landscaping and car parking.

The proposals would make a significant contribution locally in terms of social, economic and environmental benefits.

This website provides a wide range of information regarding the site and our plans, plus information about Churchill Living’s retirement communities. You can review this information using the tabs on this website.

Benefits

Regenerating the area

The proposals offer an opportunity to bring a brownfield site back into beneficial use, representing a significant investment in the centre of Ringwood.

Increased and award winning green landscaping

The proposals will introduce new green landscaping to what is currently almost entirely hard standing. Churchill Living have won awards for excellence for their landscaped gardens. Planting is considered for longevity, colour all year, seasonal change, maintenance and local native biodiversity.

Enhancing the War Memorial

A key objective is to enhance the boundary of our site, immediately adjacent to war memorial park that corners Christchurch Road and Mansfield Road. This includes new native tree planting, the introduction of metal railings and close board fencing to enhance the boundary, as well as resurfacing of the footpath along the western edge of the gardens.

Supporting local businesses

The site is within a short walk of Ringwood town centre, presenting an opportunity for an uplift in footfall and expenditure for local shops, cafes and services.

Meeting the needs of older people

By moving to a Churchill Living community of like-minded people, isolation and loneliness are significantly reduced as are anxieties related to the maintenance of the home and to safety and security experienced by many older people, enabling our residents to enjoy greatly improved health and general wellbeing.

Reducing demand on the health services

Retirement communities reduce the risk of health challenges as residents generally remain in better health, both physically and mentally, in comparison to traditional, often older accommodation. There is level access throughout, significantly reducing the risk of trips and falls, which is one of the greatest costs to the NHS.

Freeing up homes

Research has shown that by providing homes at the top of the housing ladder, which better meet the needs and aspirations of older people, this helps release many larger, second-hand properties back onto the market for local families to move into. In turn smaller homes are also released which are suitable for first-time buyers.

Manns Lodge (Cranleigh)

The location of my new apartment couldn’t be better, we’re right next to the High Street and everything we need is on our doorstep. I lived a bit further out before, and whilst I can still drive at the moment it’s nice to know that I won’t have to rely on the car in future.

Invicta Lodge (Westwood Cross)

I previously lived in a three-bed semi-detached house just 500 yards away from Invicta Lodge. Moving here is the best thing I ever did, my apartment is just right and it’s nice to have a bit of company around me as well as safety and security.
